DGP4SL - Take Me Home! "Neat Stuff That Works"

Home Contents Search SL Search Search BETA Blog Wiki

On Monday, July 23rd between the hours of midnight and 6 AM (SL Time) we will be moving the DGP4SL.COM website to a new hosting service. This move is necessary to improve the response time and capacity of the various tools and web-based services provided by DG Products for Second Life (DGP4SL). While we do not anticipate any problems during the move, there are several effects this move will have on in-world devices. You may also experience temporary problem accessing the various DGP4SL.COM web pages during and shortly after the move.

Update as of 04:17 AM, July 23rd, 2012

The transfer of hosting services from the prior service to the new DreamHost.com service has been initially completed. There were several "hitches" encountered however those were temporary and have been remedied. Some Search Bot V2 devices reported that "Boost has changed" to the new value "<br />". Very soon (if not already) a second email should be received that reports the correct Boost value. Also some of the Search Rankings recorded were not stored with the proper Owner ID attached. All of the "lost" records have been located and the proper Owner ID added. If you spot any additional problems or have any questions, please feel free to contact us at dgpsupport@dgp4sl.com or IM Darrius Gothly In-World.

Anticipated Effects on In-World Devices

When a website is moved to a new hosting service, its "IP Address" changes. Because of the way Second Life's scripting language works, In-World devices that use the Internet generally only look up a site's IP Address when they are reset or when the Region they are in restarts. This means that between Monday and the next Rolling Restarts (on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on your Region Simulator type), you may experience some errors from the various DGP4SL devices you have operating in Second Life. These devices include:

How To Fix Any Issues with Parcel Boost

If you have any problems with the Parcel Boost device, simply delete the existing device and rez a new copy. If it still fails to respond properly, please obtain a new copy and try again. You may obtain a new copy for free from the SL Marketplace at:

How To Fix Any Issues with Search Bot V2

After the change to the new hosting service is complete (after 6 AM SL Time Monday morning), if you spot any problems or issues with your existing Search Bot V2 then you may rapidly fix these by taking the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the Search Bot V2 then choose Edit from the menu.
  2. Under the Build menu, choose Scripts > Reset Scripts in Selection
  3. Wait while the Search Bot V2 resets. When complete it should generate an immediate Email report (if configured to do so).

If the error persists, please wait a short time (at least until after 6 AM SL Time before trying the above again. If the issue still persists, please send an IM to Darrius Gothly or an Email to dgothly@dgp4sl.com (When Emailing, please include your Avatar name so I can identify the proper Owner and more readily troubleshoot the problem.)

Search History Issues with Search Bot V2

Part of this move includes moving the Search History database to new servers as well. We will be copying over the existing Search History data, however some of the search results obtained just prior to the start of the move may be temporarily "missing". Once we are confident that the entire move has been completed successfully, we will copy over any Search History data that was missed in the first copy/move.

If Search History appears to be missing, please do not message for at least 24 hours to give us enough time to identify and copy across anything that was accidentally missed on the first copy. We anticipate that this should be completed no later than Midnight Tuesday, however if we do encounter any problems, we will post a notice to this effect on our blog at:

Return of the DGP4SL Blog

As some of you may be aware, our online Blog was hacked and compromised several months ago. This was directly due to the existing hosting company and their refusal to update their available services thus preventing us from updating our Blog software. (We use the highly respected and very phenomenal WordPress system.) Because we could not update, a hacker was able to identify security weaknesses in the outdated WordPress software and thus gained access to inject a Trojan virus. Fortunately we detected this attack and removed the entire Blog from access almost immediately. Needless to say, this was the last straw as far as trying to work things out with our old hosting service.

As part of this move to a new (and MUCH better hosting service .. DreamHost.com) we will be reinstating the DGP4SL Blog. We are already testing the new updated software and are confident it will not be susceptible to such attacks in the future. We've also retained all the previous blog posts and once the move is complete, all the old shortcuts will begin working again.

Questions and Support

If you have any questions about the upcoming move, or if you encounter problems after the move is complete, you may contact us at any time by sending an IM to Darrius Gothly or by sending an Email to dgothly@dgp4sl.com. Please keep in mind that while we do our best to respond to all inquiries as rapidly as possible, it may take us up to 24 hours after the move is complete before we can respond. (I'm probably going to take a long nap after the move .. but that's mainly because I'm an old man. LOL)

Thank you in advance for your patience during the upcoming changes. We promise we'll do our best to make this as painless and seamless as possible.

Our Mission

Second Life is one of those places where "Anything Goes", or at least that's the theory. We also know that when it comes to commercial markets, that "Anything" gets shrunk down pretty fast. So it is our one goal to try and keep the edges of the market pushed out some, and do so while adding fun, enjoyment, creativity and a bit of insanity to the virtual world of Second Life.

A Word About the name "Second Life"
The name Second Life is rightly owned by Linden Lab and we make no claim on it. We only use it in our name to help folks identify the platform we support. No Infringement Is Intended.
